I do not like and rarely read sweet, sentimental, charming novels. (You cannot see me but I am making gagging faces even thinking about those kind of novels.) But the Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper tickled me in ways I do not understand and I have to begrudgingly admit that this novel is the best book I have read so far in 2016.
Arthur Pepper has been a widower for exactly one year, and knows it is time to get on with it. But it is so difficult. And he is so lonely! His two adult children have their own lives, one halfway across the world in Australia. So on the anniversary of his wife’s death he forces himself to go through her things. And that’s when he finds the charm bracelet that will begin Arthur’s journey. A journey that will take him far away from his comfort zone and will push him to see that his wife may not have been the person he thought she was. And what about Arthur? Where and what is his future?
You will enjoy taking this journey with him.
