This month the Cookbook Club tried out recipes from Gordon Ramsay’s Fast Food: More than 100 Delicious, Super-Fast, and Easy Recipes by Gordon Ramsay. While all the dishes brought to the meeting were delicious (and some of them easy) most of the group members in attendance found the overall book to be not so super-fast or necessarily easy. Also, the ingredient lists were not always filled with every day items (e.g. creme fraiche and olive bread) and included some weird combinations (anchovy pasta) – although occasionally what seems like a strange pairing is actually fantastic. Everyone expressed interest in the no-bake cheesecake, but no one attempted it (sadly) when the recipe asked for a split vanilla bean rather than vanilla extract – sure, the vanilla bean probably gives it a better/richer flavor, but when someone has checked out a cookbook for easy and fast recipes they are generally looking to use the vanilla extract.
Overall, the recipes tried produced great food, but it was a bit more work (including multiple store shopping trips or substitutions) than group members were anticipating from the title.
