I discovered Sarah Andersen and her wacky cartoons on Instagram and instantly I was hooked. Andersen draws in a whimsical and simple way, sharing her life, friends and pets with us. All of these stories and comics can be found in Andersen’s first book, Adulthood is a Myth.
As Andersen puts it, “this book is for the rest of us.” – those of us who don’t feel like we are fully adults, or even good at being adults. Adulthood is a Myth bravely and sometimes hilariously shares why no matter how old we get, sometimes we just aren’t adult-y enough. Andersen shares her discomfort with young modern life, and her daily desire to just go home, put on some comfy sweats and hang out with her cat.
Adulthood is a Myth has an overarching story of Andersen’s life, but each part of it is told in one to two page bits with a giggle behind each. The comics are short, relatable and silly. Andersen expertly balances looking at herself and the world honestly, while also enjoying the little things and having a laugh.
Andersen has also written two more books in her Sarah Scribbles Series – Big Mushy Happy Lump and Herding Cats. Andersen’s books can be found in our Adult Graphic Novels Collection, but look down below for a taste of her comic style and humor.
