Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman

Norse MythologyNorse Mythology” is Neil Gaiman’s interpretation of the traditional Norse myths.  This is my first experience reading a book by Neil Gaiman, and he does not disappoint!  Fans of the recent Marvel movies will revel in this “behind the scenes” look at the true stories of the gods and goddesses of Asgard, the relationship between Thor and Loki, and the actual role these deities played in the grand order of things.  (Hint:  Loki was not necessarily viewed as a villain in these tales!)

This is a wonderfully approachable version of a piece of Norse history that is very often overlooked in classrooms today.  If you’ve ever wanted to know more about the gods and goddesses of Asgard, this book’s for you!  Gaiman makes the characters come alive and brings these age old stories to life for modern readers.  After finishing this book, I’m well on my way to finding more books about the Vikings and their gods of old!
