Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff

DarkdawnJust one word:  INCREDIBLE!!!

In my opinion, Jay Kristoff is one of the best, and most underappreciated authors of the modern day.  This series is an absolute work of art!

Mia Corvere is an assassin, trained by assassins, and on a mission for revenge.  I reviewed the first book in this series about a year and a half ago, so for a more complete synopsis of the series, please see my earlier review here.  I think it’s important to note, however, that I don’t get excited about the release of many books, but I had the publication date for this one on my calendar for months, and it did not disappoint!

Just to give you a taste of the excitement laced throughout this series, within the first 14 pages of “Darkdawn”, Mia Corvere is racing through a crypt of bones, supposedly invisible to the outside world, when she is confronted by one of her old instructors: a master swordsman bent on her destruction.

And she finds herself without a weapon…

And her instructor happens to be blind!

This series is perhaps best described as “Lord of the Rings” meets “Game of Thrones”.  Not everything in the book ended in the way I would have hoped, but wow, can Jay Kristoff write a great book!  If you’re looking for some epic action and adventure (with a lot of blood, lust, and treachery), look no further than “The Nevernight Chronicles“!!!
